Finding a counsellor who actually gets the culture
This gap is real and worth naming. When you're screening counsellors, it's completely fair to ask directly how they work with family enmeshment and community pressure — anyone worth seeing won't be offended by the question. Several BC directories now let you filter by language and cultural background too.
Clients tell me the same thing about lawyers, for what it's worth — that explaining the family context eats half the consult. Finding professionals who already understand it saves money as well as energy, so keep looking until it clicks.
I'll add that Surrey and Abbotsford both have community organizations that keep informal lists of Punjabi- and Hindi-speaking counsellors. DIVERSEcity is one place to start if the usual directories come up empty.
