CPP credit splitting — did anyone actually do this?

It is okay to feel relieved. Relief is not the same as not caring. Thank you for writing this. I thought I was the only one.

What helped me was writing everything down — dates, who said what. It kept me sane and it mattered later.

i did it. one form, some waiting, and then it was just done. after years of fighting over every dollar, a thing that simply worked felt almost unreal.

Worth flagging a detail people miss: the split covers credits earned during the relationship, including common-law years in some cases, and it proceeds even if one ex-spouse objects. Service Canada's form is the DIY-friendly kind — this is one task you rarely need a lawyer for.

Yes, and more people should. The CPP credit split goes through Service Canada, not the court, it's free to apply, and for a lower-earning spouse after a long marriage it can meaningfully change retirement income. There are time limits after divorce, so don't shelve it. General info, not advice on your situation.
